Tips for the lazy garlic lover

Hi there!

Don't you just ever get SO LAZY to chop up garlic when you're cooking? It's one of my cooking essentials, no matter what the dish. But you have to peel them, cut off the ends, mash them, and chop them all up. Plus, the cloves are so small, I sometimes worry my fingers will slip and I'll cut myself.

Too much effort, I say!

So these are some of the things I do to make adding garlic to all your meals easy-peasy (when I get off my lazy ass to actually getting around to doing it).

I buy my garlic peeled and in bulk. Problem with that is, I don't use them fast enough so they start turning bad.

My solution?

Pre-fry them!

I grab about 3-4 handfuls of them, wash them, cut off the ends, and mash them with my knife. Then, I just plop them all into my food processor and grind them until they get to a size I like (instead of chopping by hand). I use most of them for frying, and keep a small tupperware of freshly ground garlic for future cooking (so that I don't have to chop anymore garlic for a while hehe).

Heat up about 1/2 - 1 cup of oil in a large non-stick pan (you want the amount of garlic you're frying to be totally immersed in the oil).

Once it's hot, throw in the garlic. Spread them out to make sure every bit of garlic is simmering in the oil.

Don't forget to stir (otherwise it will stick, nonstick pan or not, it will stick)! And I can't stress this enough - watch it.

Garlic turns brown very quickly, and when most of them are a light brown color, turn off the heat and let it continue cooking in the oil.

Once it's cooled, you can keep them in a glass jar along with the oil. Make sure all of the garlic are completely immersed in the oil. Add more oil if it is not sufficient.

These babies are AWESOME for anything and everything you ever need extra garlic for! Just grab a spoonful of them, drain out the oil, and plop them over your ramen, or whatever else you fancy.

Plus, the last FOREVERRR!!! I had made a batch last year (can't remember exactly when, maybe around Christmas), and I juuuusst finished them today (which is why I made more lol).

I ran out of garlic a while back, and had been using the left over oil for cooking - and that gives it a really nice fragrance =) And no need to waste that fried oil ;-)

Video will be up tomorrow!

TTYL!
